Ayurveda Over Other Medical Practices

Native to India, Ayurveda system of medicines was developed by Indian sages many centuries ago using knowledge of plants and herbs and their usefulness in curing diseases. but the question is WHETHER IT IS STILL USEFUL WHEN ADVANCED MEDICAL PRACTICES ARE AVAILABLE ? I have been practicing medicines from 2008 and this is the question I have to answer to many of my patients and creating awareness for its usefulness. YES, The Practice is still as good a practice as it was before and the reason is simple its focus on overall wellness (mind and body) when other advanced medical practice focus on body only and treatments are quick-fix type - take 1 tablet and fever is over, some organ is not functioning properly -> remove/replace the organ etc.

WHAT AYURVEDA IS ALL ABOUT ?
Ayurveda is combination of “ayu” meaning AGE and "Vedas" which are knowledge that existed in India thousands of years ago.

In Ayurveda, Medicines are prepared from plans and herbs and formulation is kept intact as mentioned in Vedas (books). Ayurveda emphasis that building a healthy metabolic system, attaining good digestion, and proper excretion lead to vitality. Apart from body, Ayurveda improves the mental condition by focusing on exercise, meditation and Yoga.

PRINCIPLE:

Ayurveda is based on creating balance between of three elemental substances (doṣa दोष) : Vāyu / vāta (air & space – "wind"), pitta (fire & water – "bile") and kapha (water & earth – "phlegm"). Dosa refers to the energy field existing within the body.

There are 20 fundamental qualities ( guṇa गुण) inherent in all substances, arranged in ten pairs of antonyms: heavy/light, cold/hot, unctuous/dry, dull/sharp, stable/mobile, soft/hard, non-slimy/slimy, smooth/coarse, minute/gross, vicious/liquid. Ensuring the proper functions of channels (srotas) that transport fluids from one point to another is a vital goal of ayurvedic medicine, because the lack of healthy srotas is thought to cause rheumatism, epilepsy, autism, paralysis, convulsions, and insanity.

To sum up - Ayurveda is a “way of life” which when adopted will ensure vitality and well being as it encourages preventive care and a fine class of medical practice which cure diseases using natural elements which do not have side effects
